Airgain's Skywire NL-SW-LTE Cat 1 bis Embedded Modem, Now at Mouser, Simplifies Cellular Connectivity for IoT Devices

The NL-SW-LTE modem provides end-device Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity with an integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS). The embedded modem is optimized for Internet of Things (IoT) applications that require moderate data rates, international coverage, and long-term deployment in industrial, medical, logistics, and smart city environments.
The Airgain Skywire NL-SW-LTE Cat 1 bis modem, now available at Mouser, bridges the gap between Cat M and Cat 1, providing reliable LTE performance with a simplified, single-antenna design. Based on the Quectel EG916Q-GL module, it has full FCC, IC, and carrier end-device certifications, eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming RF approvals. The modem includes built-in GNSS support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS, and QZSS. The NL-SW-LTE embedded modem features 242μF ± 20% total capacitance and 857nH ±20% total inductance. The peak uplink and downlink speeds are 5 Mbps (uplink) and 10 Mbps (downlink) for the LTE-FDD connection type and 3.1 Mbps (uplink) and 8.96 Mbps (downlink) for the LTE-TDD connection type. With a compact 29 × 33.9 × 10.8 mm3 footprint and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, the NL-SW-LTE is suitable for a wide range of applications and environments.
Skywire modems share a common footprint to ease development, enabling designers to pick from several development kits. The kits work with a wide range of microprocessor and microcontroller boards (not included), making integrating cellular modem connectivity and prototype products easy. The NL-AB-RPI adapter is designed to work with a Raspberry Pi single-board computer. The NL-SWDK2 features a flexible interface for Arduino, ST Nucleo, NXP FRDM, and other development platforms. The NL-AB-BBBC and NL-AB-BBCL BeagleBone Capes are drop-in compatible with the BeagleBone Black, BeagleBone Black Wireless, BeagleBone Black Industrial, and BeagleBone Green community-supported development platforms. The NL-AB-mPCIe2-H Mini PCIe Express Adapter Board allows users to add cellular connectivity to any device with a mini-PCIe slot.
