Texas Instruments bq25898CEVM Evaluation Module (EVM)

Texas Instruments bq25898CEVM Evaluation Module (EVM) is a complete charger module for evaluating the bq25989C. The Texas Instruments bq25898C is a highly-integrated switch-mode battery charge management and system power path management device in the WCSP package. This battery charge management device is for a single cell Li-Ion and Li-polymer battery in a wide range of smartphone and tablet applications.

Features

  • Input voltage range of 3.9V to 14V and charge current up to 4A
  • I2C communication with input current limit initially set by D+/D- detection
  • LED indication for status signals
  • Test points for key signals available for testing purposes
  • Jumpers for a different circuit configuration

Required Equipment

  • Power Supplies
    • Power supply #1 (PS#1): a power supply capable of supplying 5V at 1A is required
      • While this part can handle larger voltage and current, it is not necessary for this procedure
    • Load #1 (4-quadrant supply, constant voltage < 4.5V)
      • A 0–20V/0–5A, > 30W system, dc electronic load and setting as constant voltage load mode or Kepco load: BOP 20–5M, DC 0 to ±20V, 0 to ±5A (or higher)
    • Load #2 use in boost mode
      • PMID to GND load, 10Ω, 5W, or greater
  • Meters
    • Six Fluke 75 multimeters (equivalent or better) or four equivalent voltage meters and two equivalent current meters, the existing meters must be capable of measuring 5A current
  • Computer
    • A computer with at least one USB port and a USB cable
    • The bq25898xEVM evaluation software must be properly installed
  • USB-to-GPIO communication kit EV2300/EV2400 USB-based PC interface board
