TE Connectivity Power Triple Lock Connector System
TE Connectivity's (TE) Power Triple Lock (PTL) Connector System offers three locking methods and an enhanced design to meet the market demand for improved connector stability and reliability in power and signal applications. An audible 'lock' latch provides confirmation when the cap and plug are mated while the ribs surrounding the latch prevent wires from becoming snagged underneath the latch. Optional Connector Position Assurance (CPA) ensures the PTL Connector System is not accidentally disengaged. The optional Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) feature ensures contacts are fully seated in the housing and provides an added measure against contact backout. Additional features include high temperature housings up to 150°C (302°F) and an upgraded lanceless contact design.TE PTL Connector System is available with three levels of housing materials, including V0 materials in standard 105°C glow-wire materials that comply with IEC60335 and high-temperature materials up to 150°C. The standard 105°C offering is well-suited for appliances and white goods while the high-temperature version is ideal for more industrial and harsh environment applications such as automotive. The glow-wire version is suitable for manufacturing in regions that are required to comply with IEC60335 regulations. Keying/color coding prevents mismating on the assembly line.
3 Levels of Housing Material
• Standard 105°C - Natural, purple, blue, yellow
• High temperature up to 150°C - Light gray
• Glow wire - Dark gray, brown, green, orange
Standard Temperature
The Standard material is polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), a thermoplastic engineering polymer (instead of nylon) that provides improved service for a broad range of appliances. The standard material is rated for 105°C and comes in natural, purple, blue, or yellow. In some instances, the basic connector design for appliances has not changed in 25 years or more. The Power Triple Lock System has been designed to be a highly robust connector system that is suited for new design opportunities. TE Connectivity has developed the Power Triple Lock Connector system to be a reliable connector system.
High Temperature
The High-Temperature material is rated at 150°C instead of 105°C. High-temperature applications, such as cooking appliances, are now addressed with the higher rated material. The high-temperature material is light gray and comes in different keying options to prevent mismating on the assembly line. The Power Triple Lock Connector System is able to meet the needs of different applications, ranging from the commercial, industrial, and transportation industries because of its broader temperature range.
Glow Wire
The Glow Wire (GWT, V0, NF 750°C) option conforms to the flammability requirements of IEC 60335-1 for unattended appliances with connections carrying a current of greater than 0.2A. Due to the possibility of human misapplication as well as overcurrent or short circuit failures within an appliance wiring system, fire protection requirements were created to evaluate and rate the flammability of material used within an appliance. Glow wire testing is one such requirement used within the appliance industry. TE Connectivity's selection of Power Triple Lock products that meet the flammability requirements of IEC 60335-1 come in dark gray, brown, green, or orange.
MFBL
Make First Break Last Triple Lock Connectors are designed to allow the ground to be established prior to the power connections being made, and the ground is maintained until after the power connections are broken. MFBL Power Triple Lock Connectors are robust and feature three positions, a new cap, plug, ground tab, and receptacle while utilizing other components from the standard Power Triple Lock connector family. They provide a secure connection and easy assembly of the Power Triple Lock connector family.
