These advancements demand faster processing speeds, higher core or pixel counts, and smaller process nodes, resulting in lower I/O voltages for protocols like I2C, SPI, GPIO, UART, PMBus, and SMBus. Mismatched I/O voltages can lead to costly "Oops moments," causing communication errors and bit failures. Adding a voltage translator between ICs can resolve these issues for as little as $0.10, avoiding the need for expensive ASIC or MCU redesigns that cost millions.

FXMA2102 Dual-Voltage-Supply Translators

onsemi / Fairchild FXMA2102 High-Performance Configurable Dual-Voltage-Supply Translators provide bi-directional voltage translation over a wide range of input and output voltage levels. These devices feature a bi-directional interface between any two levels from 1.6V to 5.5V. onsemi / Fairchild FXMA2102 voltage translators are intended for applications using the I²C bus interface. The input and output voltage levels are compatible with I²C device specification voltage levels. FXMA2102 voltage translators offer non-preferential power-up and either VCC may be powered up first. These onsemi / Fairchild devices are available in an 8-terminal leadless MicroPak™ (1.6mm x 1.6mm) or Ultrathin MLP (1.2mm x 1.4mm).

Dual Supply 2-Bit Voltage Translator

onsemi Dual Supply 2-Bit Voltage Translator is a high-performance configurable dual-voltage-supply translator/buffer/repeater/isolator for bi-directional voltage translation over a wide range of input and output voltage levels. onsemi Dual Supply 2-Bit Voltage Translator is intended for use as a voltage translator in applications using the I2C bus interface, and the input and output voltage levels are compatible with I2C device specification voltage levels. External pull-up resistors are required. The FXMA2102 translator is designed so that the A port tracks the VCCA level and the B port tracks the VCCB level. This allows for bi-directional A/B port voltage translation between any two levels from 1.65V to 5.5V. Either VCC can be powered-up first. Internal power-down control circuits place the device in 3-state if either VCC is removed. The two ports of the translator have automatic direction sense capability. Either port may sense an input signal and transfer it as an output signal to the other port.
